Last year, "True Blood" kicked off its fourth season in late June. But this summer, fans won't have to wait quite as long.

HBO has announced that season five of "True Blood" will begin its 12 episode run on Sunday, June 10 at 9pm for Alan Ball's final season as the showrunner. The first "True Blood" season 5 teaser trailer debuted earlier this week, and it showed glimpses of Sookie (Anna Paquin) dealing with the bloody aftermath of last season's cliffhanger as well as a continuation of the uneasy partnership between Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard).

"True Blood" also boasts several new cast members this year, including Christopher Meloni as Roman, the leader of the Vampire Authority; Valentina Cervi as the ancient vampire, Salome; Lucy Griffiths as Eric's vampire "sister" Nora and "Spartacus: Vengeance" costar Peter Mensah as Kibwe, a vampire who is also a member of the Authority.

On Sunday, June 24; "True Blood" will be followed by "The Newsroom" at 10pm for a ten episode first season. "The Newsroom" will also mark the TV return of Aaron Sorkin ("The West Wing") as he chronicles the story of news anchor Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels), a man who unexpectedly reveals his political leanings and risks losing his audience in the cut throat world of cable journalism.

Joining Daniels is an impressive cast including Sam Waterston, Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Emily Mortimer, John Gallagher, Jr., Olivia Munn and even Jane Fonda in a special guest starring role. You can catch the first trailer below.

I'm sure that there's no narrative crossover between "True Blood" and "The Newsroom," but it would have been hilarious if Russell Edgington (Denis O'Hare) suddenly appeared in "The Newsroom" and ripped out an anchor's spine before telling viewers "We will eat your children!"
