Sony has announced today LittleBigPlanet Karting, a continuation of the LBP brand in the realm of the kart racing. The game is being developed by ModNation Racers creators United Front Games with the help of Media Molecule and will be hitting the PlayStation 3 later this year.

“Since the launch of LittleBigPlanet, our community has provided incredible support, which can be seen in the more than six million levels and games that have been created and shared online through PlayStation Network, a truly wonderful accomplishment,” said Guy Longworth, Senior Vice President, PlayStation Brand Marketing, SCEA.  “Now, we’re thrilled to bring PlayStation 3 owners  the next Play, Create, Share experience, LittleBigPlanet Karting, a brand new competitive karting adventure that is sure to move this genre forward, providing endless entertainment for fans and newcomers, while resonating with every member of the family, young and old.”

Continuing in line with LittleBigPlanet's "Play, Create, Share" motto, LBP Karting will allow players to customize their Sackboys, karts and more. The game will also feature a robust level editor that lets you create more than just standard kart-racing tracks. Think the freedom of LittleBigPlanet 2's game creator, but apply it to a kart racer. You'll be able to share all of your creations with the LBP Karting community over the PlayStation Network. In addition, expect objective-based missions, boss battles and plenty of mini-games.

Lastly, I'll leave you with the game's first trailer. Enjoy.
