Armie Hammer looks swank, Johnny Depp looks like he's in a Tim Burton movie again.

After a tumultuous pre-production period filled with uncertainty and delays, The Lone Ranger is officially shooting, probably at this very second, and Disney and Bruckheimer Films are wasting no time in releasing this first image of Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp in full costume as The Lone Ranger and Tonto. They've also released the following tag line, which establishes the characters a bit but leaves the "A" plot out entirely:

"Tonto (Johnny Depp), a spirit warrior on a personal quest, joins forces in a fight for justice with John Reid (Armie Hammer), a lawman who has become a masked avenger."

Not much to comment on in the picture itself, except to say that Armie Hammer fills out the duds nicely and Johnny Depp looks like he's in another Tim Burton movie. The lack of a distinctive background tells us that just seeing the actors in costume is the raison d'etre for the image, and also makes it look kinda like a high school yearbook photo.

Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger is due in theaters on May 31, 2013.
