Don't call it a full-on confirmation just yet, folks, but the PS Vita is officially up for sale on Amazon.com as a pre-order. The site lists the device as being "released on December 31, 2011."
However, Sony has not officially commented on a due date for the machine. In fact, the company has previously said that the successor to the PSP was due out in Japan in 2011, but that the rest of the world wouldn't see it until early 2012.
Let's just grab our calendars, here…okay. Yep, nope, 2011 is not 2012.
Does that make this a bad rumor? No, not necessarily. Amazon is, of course, a reputable retailer.
Two hardware iterations are up for pre-order here in the US on Amazon: the wi-fi only version for $249.99 and the 3G version for $299.99. We still have no idea what consumers will be paying in terms of 3G data rates, and that's what's keeping us from committing.
Will you be snagging a PS Vita?
