After 25 years, Booster Gold is finally ready for his close up.
At first glance, the costume does seem to have the distinctive "Booster Gold" star and corporate sponsor patches that the comic book incarnation has worn before. And in the background behind Booster appears to be the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle in full armor.
In the episode written by popular comic scribe (and former "Booster Gold" writer) Geoff Johns and directed by series star Tom Welling, Booster Gold shows up as a superhero who is almost too eager to grab the spotlight.
"This guy [Booster] always shows up at the last second to make a dramatic rescue, which is really suspect," joked Johns. "The one thing Booster does prove to Clark is that people want to look up to this guy… They want to be inspired, and no one’s doing it for them."
"The episode takes place in Booster’s very early stages where he’s at his conceited best, where he believes he can do whatever he wants," added Martsolf. "He’s gonna stay for the photo op and bask in the glory of his heroic efforts."
"[Clark] wants to stand in the back and not be a glory hound," continued Martsolf. "They are completely opposites of one another."
The episode will also serve as the origin story for Reyes’ Blue Beetle when the character gets his hands on the high tech scarab that transforms him into the armored hero.
"This is the first time the scarab comes on to Jaime, so it creates a bulkier, more dangerous armor," related Johns. "Ultimately he’ll gain more control over the scarab and it will become more friendly looking."
"Booster," the eighteenth episode of the final season of "Smallville" will air on Friday, April 22.
