New 'Smallville' Poster Hints At Superman's Future

Even since the full Superman outfit made its debut earlier this season on "Smallville," the countdown to Clark Kent’s final transformation into the world’s greatest superhero has been in full swing. And while "Smallville" is infamous for teasing the costume and Clark’s future identity, it may finally be right around the corner.

Over at the DC Source Blog, a new poster called "Destiny Is Now" has debuted. In it, Clark is wearing an all black outfit more closely associated with his ninth season incarnation. But in his reflection below, the famous Superman costume is clearly seen.

Now, it may simply be some photoshop work from the famous picture of Brandon Routh in the costume from "Superman Returns," but chances are pretty good that Clark will don the costume before the end of the series.

When "Smallvlle" returns from its winter hiatus later this month, Allison Mack will reprise her role as Chloe to wrap up her character’s arc over a few episodes. Annette O’Toole will also return at least once more as Martha Kent, with Alaina Huffman ("Stargate Universe") also slated to come back as Black Canary.

Comic scribe Geoff Johns also recently spoke about his upcoming episode of "Smallville" during an interview with Comic Book Resources.

"I literally just finished the script before Christmas," said Johns. "I love the [Jaime Reyes] Blue Beetle. We introduced [this version of the character] back during ‘Infinite Crisis.’ I always like the chemistry between him and Booster [Gold], so when I was going to do this episode, I wanted to do those two together and I think the story that we came up works really well. It’s very Booster 1.0, meaning he’s in the early stages of his career as a hero — and is pretty self-serving."

Johns added "You’ll see Beetle’s origin, Booster first meeting Clark and Lois and maybe a cameo by someone from Kord Industries."

The next original episode of "Smallville" will air on Friday, January 28.
