Slowly but surely, the new "Torchwood" team has finally been brought together. Now the only question is which of the new men or women will Captain Jack Harkness seduce first?
Alexa Havins has been cast as CIA Analyst Esther Katusi, according to TVLine. Esther’s character is described as someone who "possesses an unshakable faith in human nature and a monster crush on colleague Rex Matheson (Mekhi Phifer)."
Havins is best known for her critically acclaimed stint on "All My Children," where she spent four years before moving on to guest appearances in "Rescue Me," "Cold Case," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "CSI: Miami." Havins is also slatted to appear in an upcoming episode of "Grey’s Anatomy."
Former "Dollhouse" co-star Dichen Lachman has also been signed to appear in the fourth season premiere as a CIA agent, but it’s unclear if she will make more than one appearance on the series. Like Havins, Lachman also started out in the world of soap operas in the Australian series, "Neighbors." But it was her role as Sierra on Joss Whedon’s "Dollhouse" which put her on the radar of American audiences.
The fourth season of "Torchwood" will be a co-production of Starz and the BBC under the title of "Torchwood: The New World." When the fourth season kicks off, Torchwood itself is considered a legendary organization that few know actually existed. Phifer’s Rex Matheson and Havins’ Esther reportedly search for and find the returning Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eva Myles), the surviving members of the original Torchwood team.
Arlene Tur ("Crash") is also slated to play a surgeon on the Torchwood team with Bill Pullman ("Independence Day") as a newly released killer/media celebrity who becomes entangled in Torchwood’s latest global crisis.
"Torchwood: The New World" will premiere in the summer of 2011.
