An apparent 13 episodes of the Canadian-UK drama “Combat Hospital,” which follows the trials and tribulations at a military hospital in war-torn Afghanistan, has been picked up by the U.S. station ABC.
“Combat Hospital” (which will most likely undergo a name-change) is being produced by Sienna Films, Artists Studios as well as Look Out Point. The Global program was given the go-ahead by Canwest (which has since become Shaw) last July and has become one of a long list of Global programs that have garnered interest by the American network (ABC picked up “Rookie Blue” last year, which quickly became one of the most popular new cop dramas on television).
The cast of the new show has not yet been revealed, however its production team is impressive – it was created by Douglas Steinberg (known for his work on the TV series “Psych” along with “Boston Public”) and Jinder Chalmers, and it is being executive-produced and run by Daniel Petrie, Jr. (who is the producing brains behind television’s “The Big Easy” and “Stick with Me, Kid” and the big screen’s “Turner & Hooch” and “Beverly Hills Cop”).
“Combat Hospital” had been scheduled for a Fall 2010 premiere, however it is being reported that the new medical-type drama will debut in Summer 2011 instead.
