2010 GDC Choice Award Nominees Announced

When the Game Developers Conference begins in early March, the GDC Choice Awards will celebrate their 11th anniversary. Roughly a month and a half from now, the selection jury of the GDC, comprised of 500 game creators from all walks of the industry, will choose the winners of their 2010 awards — celebrating everything from game of the year to innovation.

Leading the charge with seven nominations, including Game of the Year, is the downloadable melancholy action-puzzler, Limbo. Our Game of the Year, Red Dead Redemption, wrangled six nominations, while BioWare’s sci-fi epic, Mass Effect 2, will be recognized for five.

The award for Best Writing also has a better showcase of our medium than what we saw from the Writer’s Guild of America’s nominations, something we bitched about quite a bit in our latest podcast.

Finally, it’s cool to see some mobiles games (Cut the Rope and Game Dev Story) get acclaim in the Handheld category.
