It was a busy weekend for Superman: The Man of Steel rumors. Actresses like Alice Eve, Rosamund Pike and Diane Kruger were all announced to be up for a major, non-Lois Lane-y role in Zack Snyder’s upcoming reboot, leading to internet speculation – the cause of and solution to all of the film industry’s problems – that Lois Lane wouldn’t be in the upcoming film. I mean, honestly… Two female characters? In a movie?! Surely you can’t be serious.
Well, it turns out that not only are the makers of Superman: The Man of Steel serious, but they’d prefer that you call them Ursa. Yes, the rough, tough and buff Kryptonian made famous by Sarah Douglas in Superman 2 will be a major character in Snyder’s film. (If we keep writing the word ‘major’ over and over again, it makes the joke funnier.) Latino Review is reporting that Pike, Eve and Kruger are up for the coveted villain part, which also leads to speculation that Superman 2 baddie General Zod might make an appearance as well, even though Snyder has officially denied that part.
Coming Soon has already debunked part of this story, reporting that Diane Kruger has officially denied auditioning for the role. "No," she said. "It’s not true." So unless the question was, "If you are auditioning for the role of Ursa in Superman: The Man of Steel, could you please say ‘No, it’s not true?’" then she’s probably not involved. That leaves Alice (She’s Out of Your League) Eve and Rosamund (An Education) Pike up for the part, assuming that part of the story isn’t bunk as well.
CRAVE Online will return with more official news – or at least, really, really juicy rumors – as Superman: The Man of Steel preps for production.
