The skyrocketing songwriter known as LP is rapidly outgrowing her previous description as the woman you've never heard of but whose work you know by heart. The New York native has written hits for Rihanna (“Cheers”) and Christina Aguilera (“Beautiful People”), among others, and is now shifting her focus to a rapidly-rooting solo career. After two albums and a new EP, LP is finishing work on her first full-length effort with Warner Bros. Records.
With a diminutive presence that defies her booming, soulful delivery, LP – dressed like a female 60s-era Dylan – delivered a spectacular performance at Austin City Limits to a captivated crowd that had tripled in size during the length of her set. Just after her performance, Laura sat down with us in the back of a retro airliner trailer to discuss her future plans, the festival atmosphere, avoiding the celebrity pitfalls and more.
A full-length album from LP can be expected later this year – for more news, keep it locked at LP's official website.
