She studied Spanish and English literature at Leeds University. After graduating, she lived in Barcelona for three years. She subsequently landed roles in Spanish TV and film. Hannah New said, “I remember saying to my mom, ‘I think [acting] is really what I want to do,’ and she said, ‘Well, why don’t you get a degree that enables you to work in two markets?’ I think that’s one of the most amazing pieces of advice anyone’s ever given me.” She added, “It’s an incredibly satisfying experience to be able to act in another language,” (craveonline.com). She added, “It was like a real baptism by fire [working in Spain] because I was given scripts with really sophisticated language, so it was a lot of fun.”
After she arrived in Los Angeles in 2012, one of her first auditions was for “Black Sails.” She said, “When I read the script, I thought, ‘Wow, this is a real, ballsy female.'” Ironically, she doesn’t get on boats as she gets terribly seasick. She said that shooting on a boat is “really tough because it’s a confined space, there’s lot of people, constantly moving. It can be a real, real tough day on a boat.”
To prepare for her part on “Black Sails,” Hannah New did “lots of stunt training just to be able to be safe, really…I really love the challenge.”
Aside from acting, she loves culture and has visited over 20 countries. Hannah New is currently single and resides in Los Angeles, California.
