She took her husband's last name when she married Freddy Moore in 1980. As a child, Demi was born cross-eyed and had two surgeries to correct it.
She dropped out of high school at 16 to pursue a modeling career and posed nude for Oui magazine in 1980. She signed with Elite Modeling Agency and enrolled in drama classes.
Her first film was "Choices." Other roles followed, including stints on "General Hospital" and "Parasite" but it was her role in "Blame It on Rio" that gave her career momentum. She later appeared in "St. Elmo's Fire," "About Last Night." and "The Seventh Sign."
Demi Moore starred in the hit "Ghost," which earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination as Best Actress. She later co-produced and starred in "Mortal Thoughts." Many other film roles followed.
In 1991, she appeared nude on the cover of "Vanity Fair," while she was seven months pregnant. The cover sparked an argument of sexual objectification versus it being a symbol of empowerment.
Demi Moore's net worth is estimated to be around $150 million. Aside from her acting roles, she was an investor in Planet Hollywood, and the executive producer of all the "Austin Powers" films, as well as the interview series "The Conversation."
