Courtney Force is a racecar driver, probably best known for being named 2012 NHRA Rookie of the Year. Her father is legendary drag racer, John Force.
Courtney Force grew up the youngest daughter of four girls. “When I was a little kid, I used to draw pictures in school of Funny Cars and of me racing my dad. I knew that when I grew up I wanted to be just like him and be involved in such an incredible sport.”
In school, she was scared most of taking a test as a little kid. “I was out of town a lot, so I always got nervous when I’d come back and we’d have a pop quiz. I usually missed Fridays to go out to a racetrack and watch my dad.” She attended Esperanza High School, where she was a cheerleader. She also took part in Auto Shop and Welding. Later, she attended California State University Fullerton, where she majored in Communications.

Courtney Force earned her NHRA competition driver’s license in 2005, and her Alcohol-Fuel license in 2008. In 2011, she earned her Funny Car license. She explained, “A Funny Car is an 8,000 HP car that goes over 300 mph in 4 seconds…and a lot can happen in just four seconds. These cars, at that speed don’t tend to want to go perfectly straight so when you’re in the driver’s seat you’ve got your hands full! It takes physical and mental ability to drive one of these cars…at 300mph you basically have tunnel vision until you get to the finish line and deploy the parachutes.”
As for driving, Courtney Force said, “I can’t wait to start beating up on the boys, especially my dad.” She added, “I loved going to the races as a kid and getting dirty working on the car grease all over me. I have my girlie side, too, but I loved being a tomboy at the track.”
As for the danger of the sport, she said, “I’ve watched my dad crash, catch on fire, and have his car shatter into a million pieces…you take a risk at anything in life but you shouldn’t let it hold you back from something you’re really passionate about.”
Her hobbies include going to the beach, spending time with friends, and going to the gym. A bit of trivia: she’s a picky eater. Her favorite guilty pleasure is frozen yogurt. And if she were to be a superhero, she’d choose Superman.
Courtney Force said she is fearless when it comes to driving her car, but not fearless to normal life stuff like insects. She is single and resides in Yorba Linda, California.
