Apple Reveals it Hasn’t Killed the iPod with Gorgeous New Model

The iPod is back and it's looking better than ever.

I was convinced that Apple may have been in the process of killing the iPod when they removed the link to the music device from their home page, replacing it with a tab dedicated to Apple Music. But it seems that the company aren’t done with it just yet, unveiling a brand new model in the iPod Touch line.

The new iPod Touch has an improved 8 megapixel camera, a big jump from its predecessor’s 5MP, the same offered by the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2. Burst and slo-mo modes have also been added to increase photo options, while video stabilization will ensure that recording using the Touch whilst the user is on the move will be a lot easier. There’s also a new 64-bit A8 chip under the hood, too, allowing for better graphics in the App Store’s games.

The Touch will, of course, be compatible with the Apple Music app thanks to it sporting the latest iOS, and its 4-inch retina display will make all your album artwork look that much prettier.

In terms of design, this is undoubtedly the best-looking iPod yet. Available in space gray, blue, gold, pink and silver, each device looks incredibly vibrant and the design change has also prompted Apple to release the same colors for the iPod Nano and Shuffle, too. 

Prices for the new iPod Touch start at $199 for the 16GB version, moving up to $399 for the 128GB version. However, it’s still not getting pride of place on Apple’s official website, instead being relegated to the lower right-hand corner of the homepage (it’s not even featured in its cover panel slideshow!)

But at least the iPod isn’t dead yet and, despite dwindling sales of the device, Apple is continuing to support it even it’s not as vital to the company’s financial bottom line as it once was.
